The Observatory for Rural Sociocultural Development of Castelló

Written by Super User on . Posted in Uncategorised

The Observatory for Rural Sociocultural Development of Castelló grew out of work begun in 1999 by the Universitat Jaume I in the rural areas of the province of Castelló. The Observatory was established as a permanent strategic instrument for the study of the sociocultural reality in the province, integrated in the structure of University Extension Programme.

Its participants include personnel from the UJI and specialists and professionals in the management of culture, social action, education and local development involved in an open and cooperative research style with a pluridimensional approach.

Observatori

It draws on the structure and experience of the PEU to encourage cultural development as a factor of social progress and personal growth, using a wide range of activities identified from collaborative work with rural stakeholders.

Its key objective is to foster a comprehensive and shared understanding of rural life. It is aimed at specialist and professional workers, organisations and institutions that mediate in sociocultural development.

Locality Workgroups

Written by Super User on . Posted in Uncategorised

The Locality Workgroups arose in response to requests from specialists for further support for the network in a context closer to their own territories. This new system replaces some of the Specialist Committee meetings to strengthen and build on the regional meetings already held in some areas.

The PEU suggests defining areas based on existing work dynamics or professional affinities: Palancia, Pla del Arc, Els Ports, Maestrat and Espadà-Millars. The meetings will be convened, organised and the necessary information managed by the specialists chosen in each group. In these local meetings the specialists from each area will work on their own projects and find solutions to meet their particular needs.

Specialist Committee Meetings

Although the traditional format of the Specialist Committee has changed, it retains its original work dynamic, which covers the following areas:

Sharing experiences, comparing what we do, and drawing on all the resources that a group with great experience and commitment can bring.
Gathering information and ensuring that this information flows among us, and continuously evaluating the PEU.
Two face-to-face meetings will be held, one in the UJI and the other in a town or village following a rotation determined by the specialists. An on-line meeting is also planned for the end of the first semester.

Specialist network

Knowledge management is a constant feature of the cultural projects that aim to share knowledge and move towards collaborative work models that strengthen individual capabilities in shared learning contexts. This is unquestionably one of the main challenges facing universities in the twentieth century, and an opportunity to construct a symbolic space where knowledge is the bedrock for development.

Xarxa de treball tecnic

The networking model advocated by the PEU is based on the principle of distributed networks. We have reached this point after a process during which the UJI has gradually moved away from the centre of the project to become a node like any other in this network of shared leadership.

Strategic areas

The most efficient management of the PEU’s financial resources involves creating strategic alliances between the UJI and the most dynamic rural municipalities. These alliances should be grounded on the co-responsibility of both parties and the commitment to work in a process of cultural development in the territory.

Ares Los Molinos Circular

SINGULARPROJECTS

The PEU’s ongoing process of review, together with its openness to the shifting circumstances of its environment, give rise to continuous actions and partnerships that result in projects designed to stimulate citizens from a range of perspectives. Working with different groups requires variety of approaches with which to awaken the population’s curiosity to find out about our environment and perhaps understand it, just enjoy it or maybe try to improve it.

One of the keystones of the University Extension Programme is training, and throughout the various years of the PEU it has become a vital element in the process of sociocultural stimulation in rural areas.
