PEU – University Extension Programme, Universitat Jaume I, Castelló

Written by Super User on . Posted in Uncategorised

The University Extension Programme (PEU) takes up the challenge of ensuring the university’s presence in the surrounding territory and of using culture as a vehicle of communication to approach the current social reality.

As well as its conventional targets (teaching and research), the Universitat Jaume I pays particular attention to the study and development of culture, and to participating in the advances and development of society.

One of the university’s core missions, through the PEU, is to encourage the creation and dissemination of critical thinking and the growth of culture in the university community and society as a whole, and to provide comprehensive education and training in the process of lifelong learning. Its objectives include development cooperation, social and cultural transformation, creation and dissemination of critical, participative cultural habits and practices in a spirit of solidarity, as well as open and plural continuing education.

In parallel, we have developed a teaching model that enhances informal, cooperative, experiential learning, where critical reflection on reality and shared learning are core factors in this process of growth.
The PEU is committed to a model that follows the distributed network approach. In this model, all the actors involved in the process form part of a horizontal structure in which the central focus of the project may be located in any of the network’s nodes.

The programme is based on the joint leadership of the various agents in the territory: town councils, associations, groups and, in particular, development specialists and professionals whose commitment and dedication lies with and for the territory.

Garbell Seminar

The Garbell Seminar brings together a group of professionals in local development, education and social and cultural management working in the regions of Castelló. The seminar is a response to the needs of these specialists in bringing Agenda 21 for Culture to the public. It offers a time to share and learn, to create a space of empowerment based on self-esteem and recognition of others.
The objective of the Garbell Seminar is to become an agent of personal and social transformation and, through its professionals, to boost public participation and bring about changes that will improve quality of life for the rural population.

Territori en singular (Territory in singular)

Written by Super User on . Posted in Uncategorised

Territori en singular is an Observatory initiative arising from the need for a space for analysis, reflection and action on the social and economic policies that continue to exacerbate geographical inequalities.

We believe there is an essential need for work forums where rural stakeholders can interact and engage actively in a more participatory, integrated and multi-sectoral development.

Documentary archive

Written by Super User on . Posted in Uncategorised

The need to bring to attention the documentation generated during these years of the programme has led the Observatory to set up a documentary archive.

We know that documentation contains information, and information is knowledge. The target of this documentary archive is to become a channel for the consultation and dissemination of the knowledge obtained over the years; an open channel where as well as managing documents produced and publications related to rural development, it will also be a dynamic space where people can share experiences, reflect and generate new debates.

It is aimed at all agents working in and for rural areas and rural development, the people who are at the same time the recipients and generators of the contents that will make up this archive.

We have begun organising and classifying this documentary heritage by creating a space in the UJI library for publications related to rural life.
